⚠️ Very Important Data Recovery Difference

External drives fall into two categories:

1. Traditional USB enclosure (older models)

• Inside = normal SATA 2.5" HDD

• Can remove enclosure and recover via SATA

• Easier recovery process

2. USB-native drives (newer Seagate/WD)

• USB controller is built directly into the drive PCB

• You CANNOT just convert to SATA easily

• Requires chip-level or PCB firmware-level recovery
